Vinicius Junior has won widespread praise for his performances with Real Madrid in the early part of the 2021/22 season.

Although Karim Benzema is widely credited with firing Los Blancos to the top of La Liga with a record-breaking start to the season, Vinicius Jr has played a valuable backup role.

In six league outings this season, he has scored five goals and created three more. Only the Frenchman boasts more goal involvements for the Bernabeu side.

Indeed, he has been the silver lining to Madrid failing to land Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. If the World Cup winner had arrived, he would surely have remained peripheral and not exploded in the manner he has.

What does Vinicius Junior earn?

Despite this impressive contribution, Vinicius is one of the poorest paid players at Real Madrid.

Goal reports that he earns only €3.2 million per season, rising to €4m when bonuses are included. To put this into context, this is the same wage bracket as Dani Ceballos, Jesus Vallejo and Andry Lunin. Clearly, he is performing to a higher standard than that.

Furthermore, it is reported that Madrid have been impressed by the youngster’s attitude towards the club. He was one of the first to accept a cut in wages when the Covid-19 pandemic struck and it became clear there would be major economic ramifications for the club to consider.

Now it is only a matter of time before he is rewarded with a new deal, with the Real Madrid board appreciating that his terms reflect the potential he had when he arrived from Flamengo in 2018 for €45m million.

Both the club and Vinicius Junior believe that talks will be able to be concluded relatively swiftly and the young attacker will be given a shiny new contract on far better wages and with a greater release clause than the €500m one he presently boasts.
