Fati is regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters in European football but his contract at Camp Nou was due to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Although Barca always had the option to unilaterally extend Fati’s contract by another two years regardless, the two parties had been in negotiations to create a better and longer deal for the attacker.
A deal has now officially been agreed and Barcelona delivered a statement on Wednesday evening to announce the news.
What did Barcelona’s Ansu Fati statement say?
“FC Barcelona and the player Ansu Fati have reached an agreement to renew his contract until 30 June 2027. The buy out clause is set at 1,000 million euros,” the Barcelona statement read.
“The formalising of the new contract that will tie the La Masia product to the club for the rest of the season and the next five will take place on Thursday 21 October with a 12pm CEST photo session and a subsequent press conference at the Auditori 1899.”
Fati has been in fantastic form since returning from a long spell out injured, scoring twice in five games – including a brilliant goal in the 3-1 win over Valencia on Sunday.
The last match that Ansu Fati had played before his return last month had been on November 5 2020 against Real Betis, at which point he had six goals and five assists from 14 matches for club and country that term.
The teenager had started the 2020/21 season in scintillating form, until he suffered a devastating torn meniscus in his left knee.
The 18-year-old was initially expected to miss four months, but his recovery kept getting extended due to multiple surgeries.
He eventually returned on September 26 to score as a substitute in a 3-0 win over Levante.
Fati is just one of a number of talented Barcelona teenagers, also including Pedri and Gavi.
