Valencia head coach Jose Bordalas has questioned how Barcelona have been able to sign Ferran Torres, and asked how Spanish Financial Fair Play works.

Barcelona's financial struggles meant they were only able to register their new signings last summer by letting Lionel Messi leave for free, Antoine Griezmann depart to Atletico Madrid on loan, and reducing the wages of Gerard Pique and a few other star players.

However, the Blaugrana have been able to buy Ferran Torres from Manchester City for €55 million (£46m) in the January transfer window. Barcelona aren't even able to register Torres yet, due to La Liga's salary cap, but they were able to sign him in the first place, which has been questioned by Bordalas.

His Valencia side are also in severe financial trouble, largely caused due to the pandemic, and have been forced to sell several stars for minimal money just to survive.

Bordalas won't be able to add to his squad in January unless he sells first, hence why he is frustrated that Barcelona, who are in major debt, are able to sign new players with no consequences.

What has Bordalas said?

Football Espana have reported that in his latest press conference, Bordalas expressed his displeasure at Barcelona's latest signing. "Barca have a debt of 300 million and and they have signed Ferran Torres,” he said.

“Where is Fair Play?”

Barcelona have taken out several large loans in recent months, and have used this money to sign Torres from Manchester City. According to Fair Play, loans still count as income, and can be used for new signings, meaning Barca have found a loophole.

However, the side led by Xavi still need to sell assets in January in order to comply with La Liga's salary cap and be able to register Torres for the remainder of the league season.

They currently sit fifth in La Liga after 19 games. Valencia are ninth.
