Aubameyang delighted with breaking Barcelona duck
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could not hide his delight after scoring his first goals as a Barcelona player.
Aubameyang struck twice in the 4-1 win at Valencia on Sunday, his first goals since joining Barcelona from Arsenal on a free transfer during the January window.
The 32-year-old broke the deadlock by running onto a long ball from Jordi Alba and burying his finish at the near post into the roof of the net.
He doubled his tally before half time by tapping the ball in from Gavi’s cross.
This continued Aubameyang’s brilliant record at Valencia’s ground after he also scored a hat-trick there for Arsenal in a Europa League match in 2019.
What did Aubameyang say?
“I am very happy, but above all I’m happy because we won”, Aubameyang said after the game.
“Last time I played here, in the Europa League with Arsenal, we won, and now I’ve done the double.
“This stadium is like my home.
“I think we’ve played well in the last few games, and only the result was missing, but today we played well and won.
“It’s important for the group, and now it’s time to push on, because we have an important game on Thursday.”
Aubameyang was starting his second successive game for Barcelona. He also was chosen from the first whistle in the 1-1 draw with Napoli in the Europa League last Thursday.
