Barcelona’s deal to sign Pedri from Las Palmas in the summer of 2020 is set to go down as one of the greatest pieces of transfer business done by the Camp Nou club.

Pedri arrived as a 17-year-old with little expected of him. However, his influence was so profound that he became a virtual ever present for the Catalans in his first season at the club. Furthermore, he was called up to represent Spain at both Euro 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics.

REVEALED: The world's most valuable footballers

His second campaign has proven to be more complicated as he has struggled with injury that kept him out for much of the first part of the season, but it is little coincidence that Barca’s form has improved since Pedri regained fitness in mid-January.

Indeed, he already has a goal and an assist to his credit in league football since coming back, while he also found the target in the Copa del Rey loss to Athletic Club.

Pedri's price tag revealed

Meanwhile, sporting director Ramon Planes has underlined just how much of a bargain that Barca got when they signed Pedri from Las Palmas by revealing the details of the deal.

Speaking to Radio Marca he said: “The final price for Pedri will be €20 million, and that’s including potential add ons.

“I remember when we signed Pedri, there were people who were not so happy with the deal, that we were investing €5m in a young player.”

There will certainly be no critics of Barcelona’s deal to capture Pedri for just €5m now, particularly as he is set to be one of the stars of his generation.

What is Pedri worth now?

According to FootballTransfers’ calculations, which are based upon analysing hundreds of in-game data points, Pedri’s estimated value is around €72m – well over three times what the club paid for him, including bonuses.

Since breaking into the Barca side, his value has continually risen as he has met all the challenges thrown at him in the first team.

Despite the potential profit Barcelona could make on Pedri, there is, of course, no chance of the Camp Nou side selling one of their prized assets.
