Thomas Meunier has played with both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland – and he says that the Paris Saint-Germain player just has the edge out of the pair.

A rivalry is brewing between the two superstars, who are set to take over the mantle of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the outstanding players in the world game.

Furthermore, both are likely to be on the move next summer. Mbappe appears destined for Real Madrid as his contract with PSG ticks down, while Haaland’s future is less clear, with a glut of clubs chasing the Norway international. Indeed, both could well wind up at the Bernabeu.

Meunier, who played with PSG from 2016-2020 before moving to Dortmund, has explained that he sees Mbappe as being the superior player.

“They’re not the same style at all,” he pointed out to L’Equipe. “But technically, I believe that Mbappe’s at a level above.

“Haaland, physically, remains a real No.9. He is a pure goal scorer.

“They are both super good, but Kylian has that extra thing. When you think of the Brazilian Ronaldo or Thierry Henry, he has this instinct which could make him a football legend.”

Meunier criticised PSG

Meunier has been outspoken on the running of PSG in the past and did not hold back when asked about the club.

“I’m watching the Netflix documentary on Neymar,” he said. “And it’s just like that: Neymar is Paris, Paris is Neymar.

PSG is about the bling since it’s creation
- Thomas Meunier

“It sums everything that happens at PSG up, with the stars, the influencers, the players’ entourage, the management, the supporters.

“PSG is about the bling since it’s creation, and it has to stay that way. It must make you dream more than anything else.”

Despite this, PSG are struggling to put together a cohesive team on the field, despite possessing a world-class offensive trio containing Neymar, Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
