Haaland's hero tips the Norwegian for Barcelona move
Former Swansea and Napoli striker Michu, a hero of Erling Haaland, reckons the Norwegian striker could sign for Barcelona this summer.
In his younger days, the Borussia Dortmund striker would emulate Michu by copying his celebration after certain goals, and it is believed the pair hold a positive relationship to this day.
Over the past two years, Haaland has emerged as one of the most devastating forwards in world football, with his performances for RB Salzburg and then Dortmund attracting the attention of the biggest teams in Europe.
Since January of 2019, he has scored a remarkable 80 goals in all competitions for the German giants.
Haaland is widely expected to leave Dortmund this summer when a release clause of €75 million can be triggered.
Michu knows that Haaland is wanted by every elite club, but insists the player will only go to a team capable of winning the Champions League.
"I was with Haaland, I had a conversation with him and I think he is not going to continue at Dortmund," Michu told Que t'hi jugues' (Cadena SER).
"Haaland is looking for a very strong team that can compete in the Champions League. He is looking for a competitive team."
Barcelona to sign Haaland?
Even though Barcelona are in economic turmoil at the moment, they still managed to sign Ferran Torres from Manchester City for €65 million in the January transfer window.
They were able to achieve such a deal due to the low upfront payment, while a restructuring of player wages has also lightened the pressure financially.
Barca would have to sell in order to buy this summer, but if they can raise the funds then they could be in the race for Haaland.
In fact, Michu believes it is Camp Nou that lies in the Norwegian's future.
"He gave me the feeling that he was looking for a sports project for many years and he told me that he liked Spain," Michu continued.
"Think more about a sports project than the economic issue. If [Kylian] Mbappe goes to Madrid, I think Barca would be a very good option.
"With these times, Haaland is cheap."
