Gianluigi Buffon has urged Kylian Mbappe to ignore the overtures of Real Madrid and remain at Paris Saint-Germain to win the Champions League.

In the summer of 2017, Mbappe completed a loan move to PSG from Monaco which was subsequently made permanent for a fee of €145 million which remains the second most expensive transfer in history.

He has, however, been constantly linked with Real Madrid after his admission that he was fan of Los Blancos, having grown up idolising Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mbappe's contract at PSG runs out in June, and he is already available to talk to other clubs about a move as a free agent this summer.

On deadline day in the summer 2021 transfer window, Madrid attempted to sign the World Cup winner by tabling a mammoth €200m bid to bring him to La Liga a year early.

PSG didn't even respond to the offer.

There are no signs that Mbappe will sign a new contract with PSG despite his continued statements confirming his desire to win the Champions League with the French giants.

He is widely expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

What did Buffon say about Mbappe?

Buffon, a former team-mate of Mbappe's at PSG, believes the young superstar will be better suited staying in Paris rather than moving to Madrid.

“If I was Mbappe…damn, I'm at PSG! They had incredible confidence in me, I'm an important player, I'm young, PSG has never won the CL [Champions League]

"My challenge is this: I stay at PSG to win the CL," the Italian told Canal +.

Mbappe is currently in one of the most star-studded attacking line-ups in history alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, but has still emerged as their most potent forward in the 2021/22 campaign.

So far this season he has scored 22 goals and recorded 14 assists in all competitions.

On Tuesday evening, Mbappe emerged as the match-winner in PSG's Champions League last-16 first leg clash against Real Madrid.
