Kylian Mbappe has dropped a suggestion that he could be ready to remain with Paris Saint-Germain and turn down a possible move to Real Madrid.

Mbappe is out of contract with PSG in the summer and has thus far refused to sign a new deal with the Parc des Princes club.

While reports from Spain continue to link the player strongly with a move to Real Madrid, in France there is a suggestion that Mbappe has not closed the door to staying put. Indeed, L’Equipe recently reported that four conditions must be met if the World Cup winner is to go nowhere.

Meanwhile, the player himself has suggested that he is open to remaining at the club.

Speaking after turning in a brilliant performance against Saint-Etienne on Saturday, during which he scored twice and brilliantly set up Danilo for the third in a 3-1 win, Mbappe discussed the possibility of becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer.

It is a target that is now in view for him, having drawn joint second in the ranking along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic on 156 goals. Edinson Cavani is the only player ahead of him. The Urguayan has scored exactly 200 PSG goals – a target that Mbappe will feel is viable to reach in a season and a half.

“Zlatan, you know what he did here. He’s iconic,” Mbappe said. “It means that I’m at a very high standard, in very, very elite company. So I’ve managed to match him, and if there are no big problems, I’ll overtake him.

“There’s still Edi, so we’ll see how it goes. Of course you can’t spit on becoming the top scorer of PSG’s history. We’ll see what will happen.”

Mbappe: A man of his word

Mbappe has not taken a definitive position on his future, which is telling given that in the past he has been open and honest with the media, preferring not to speak than to lie. At the very least, this statement suggests that he has not taken a definitive position on his future.

“It’s always been my goal to leave a trace in the memories of the people, whether it’s statistical or visual,” he added. “I’m happy to do it here in Paris.”

PSG or Real Madrid, then? It is still unclear where Mbappe will play next season.
