Marco Asensio believes that teammate Eden Hazard can still become a success at Real Madrid.

Hazard was widely regarded as one of the world’s best players when he signed for Real Madrid from Chelsea for €100 million in the summer of 2019.

However, his two and a half seasons in the Spanish capital have been nothing short of a disaster as he has been plagued by injury problems and poor form.

The 31-year-old has broken down on 15 separate occasions with injuries since joining, missing over 60 games due to physical problems.

In the 62 games he has played for Madrid, Hazard has managed only six goals and eight assists.

This season things have got even worse for the Belgian, as he has started only nine games in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

What did Asensio say?

“He trains well, I see him with excitement to give joy to Madrid, but many things have been put together, some injuries…it’s complicated to know,” Asensio told Cadena SER.

“You have to ask him and some day he will give it to us. He could still be very important this season.

“He is a player with an incredible talent. He is one of the best players I have shared a dressing room with and that already noticeable in training. I believe that he can offer a lot this season.”

Hazard received an offer from Newcastle during the January transfer window but he rejected the chance to return to the Premier League.

Real Madrid are understood to be open to selling Hazard this coming summer but the winger wants to choose his next club carefully ahead of the World Cup later this year.

Despite his predicament at Madrid, Hazard is still considered an important player for the Belgium national team.
