Lewandowski 'wants' Barcelona move
Robert Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich and join Barcelona this summer.
Earlier this month, FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Barcelona had pulled out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, and that they had turned their attention to Lewandowski.
The Blaugrana are in the middle of a squad rebuild under Xavi, and although they signed forwards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres in the January transfer window, a new world-class striker remains a priority for the summer.
Barca are currently making approaches to understand whether a summer deal is possible for Lewandowski.
His contract in Bavaria expires in 2023 and so far there has been little progress over a new contract.
If the Pole does not pen a new deal, Bayern could look to cash in on him so he doesn’t leave on a Bosman next year.
The Spanish giants have been given a boost by the report from Spanish outlet Sport that Lewandowski wants to move to La Liga.
It is alleged that Lewandowski believes he has achieved everything that he can at Bayern, winning multiple Bundesliga titles as well as the Champions League and Club World Cup.
He has previously spoken of a desire to move to another country and experience another language and culture.
Indeed, Lewandowski would have left Bayern for Barcelona or Real Madrid earlier if the opportunity arose.
How Barcelona could line up with Lewandowski
It is likely that Barcelona will make more than one signing this summer, as in addition to Lewandowski they have been strongly linked with the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Nicolas Tagliafico and Noussair Mazraoui.
There is, of course, also the situation surrounding Ousmane Dembele.
The Frenchman's contract will expire in the summer and, at the moment, it appears he will leave, though that could obviously change.
For the purposes of this XI, we'll look at players already at the club.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen may not be in the best form of his career, but he will remain Barcelona's number one.
Sergino Dest doesn't appear to be fully trusted by Xavi, so Dani Alves might keep his place at right-back if nobody else comes in.
The same can be said for Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo and Jordi Alba.
Barcelona's strongest area of the pitch is in midfield and the favoured trio of Sergio Busquets, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong should continue, though Gavi and Nico will receive plenty of game time also.
If Dembele signs a new deal, he'll continue on the right with Ferran Torres on the left and Lewandowski up front.
