Robert Lewandowski would like to join Barcelona this summer because it will give him a better chance of winning the Ballon d’Or, according to Sport.

Earlier this month, FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Barcelona had pulled out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, and that they had turned their attention to Lewandowski.

The Blaugrana are in the middle of a squad rebuild under Xavi, and although they signed forwards Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres in the January transfer window, a new world-class striker remains a priority for the summer.

Barca are currently making approaches to understand whether a summer deal is possible for Lewandowski.

WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?

His contract in Bavaria expires in 2023 and so far there has been little progress over a new contract.

If the Pole does not pen a new deal, Bayern could look to cash in on him so he doesn’t leave on a Bosman next year.

Sport claims that Barcelona would be prepared to pay between €50-60 million for the 33-year-old in order to complete their attack.

Lewandowski himself is interested in making the move for two major reasons.

Lewandowski has won the FIFA Best Player award but not the Ballon d'Or

First of all, this will be the last chance for him to experience one big last challenge in another major league and club before he ends his playing career.

And secondly, Lewandowski believes he will have more chance of winning the Ballon d’Or at Barcelona.

Lewandowski controversially missed out on winning the Golden Ball in the last two years. He lost out to Lionel Messi in 2021 and there was no award given in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

There is a feeling that there is a natural bias towards players in La Liga and thus Lewandowski would be more likely to finally get his hands on the prize if he was at Barca.
