Gareth Bale’s agent believes his client deserved a “grand farewell” before he leaves the club at the end of the season.

The Wales international became one of the most expensive players in the world when he made the move to Spain in 2013 for a remarkable fee of around £91 million.

Los Blancos would undoubtedly say the winger was certainly worth that, as Bale has gone on to bag 106 goals and 67 assists in over 250 games for the Spanish giants.

As well as that, the Welsh forward has also won two league titles and four Champions League titles as part of a Madrid side that truly dominated European football.

However, in recent years Bale has struggled for game time and respect at the capital side, with the Spanish press going as far as to depict him as a “parasite” after the player missed out on a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona, only to then be perfectly fit for an international game a few days later.

'The parasites are the ones who speak ill of him'

Bale was highly critical of the remarks at the time but his agent, Jonathan Barnett, has doubled down on the player’s comments and believes the former Tottenham Hotspur star deserves far more respect.

"Bale deserves a grand farewell from the club. And no, we have not yet decided on the future." Barnett told Spanish TV station Deportes Cuatro.

He added: "He speaks Spanish. What happens is that people who do not know him say that he does not. Stupid and ignorant people who have not spoken to him. It's a shame.

“He has always been very happy in Madrid, he arrived as a young man, his children were born in the city, he has donated a lot of money to Spanish hospitals for Covid (a reported £400k) and he loves the city and the club and I think the parasites are the ones who speak ill of him."
