Former Real Madrid star Guti believes Sergio Ramos knows that he made a mistake in leaving Santiago Bernabeu in 2021.

During the summer of 2021, PSG embarked on one of the most impressive transfer windows in history, signing Lionel Messi, Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi and of course Ramos.

Danilo Pereira's move from Porto was made permanent, while left-back Nuno Mendes also arrived on loan from Sporting CP.

Messi naturally stole most of the headlines, but there was plenty of fanfare for Ramos, too, as PSG were bringing in one of the most successful defenders of the last 15 years in terms of accumulated trophies.

Unfortunately for PSG, and for the Spaniard, the move has been a complete disaster.

Constant injury issues have meant that Ramos has made just eight appearances in all competitions for PSG, earning just 393 minutes of playing time.

For a player on a reported salary of €12m per season in France, he has been a costly addition to the squad with zero to show for it.

Ramos left Real Madrid in the first place as his demands included a two-year deal rather than the one-year deal put on the table. Eventually, Madrid called his bluff and he was forced to leave.

And, Guti knows his former team-mate regrets how negotiations transpired.

"Sergio Ramos knows that he made a mistake because he pushed too hard when it came to negotiating," Guti said on El Chiringuito.

"He thought that ]President] Florentino Pérez was going to do what he wanted and he doesn't realize that for Florentino, Real Madrid is above everything."

"Upon reaching a certain age, it is renewed for a year for Sergio Ramos and for everyone, and Sergio did not understand that.

"Sergio Ramos is regretting it because he was a Real Madrid legend, he was able to finish his career at the club and he didn't take advantage of it. He left through the back door and it's a bad start for him."

Ramos' says he wants to extend PSG stay

Speaking to Ludovic Giuly on Amazon Prime, the Spaniard says he wants to play at this level for another four years, and that he wants to add another year on top of his two-year deal at the Parc de Princes, despite his lack of impact in his first season.

“I’d like to play for another four to five years at a high level, and then experience something else," he said.

“I have two years here in Paris, we’ll try to make that three! One more, and then we’ll see.

“But as long as the body holds up, I think I can keep my head well focused.”
