Real Madrid’s Maldini will finish career here – Ancelotti
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti believes Luka Modric will sign a new contract with the club and actually finish his career as a Los Blancos player.
At the moment, the Croatian's contract will end in June, but he is poised to sign a new contract for at least another season.
Should he put pen to paper on a new deal, he will still be with Madrid at the age of 37.
Modric may be in the twilight of his career, but he is still performing to a wonderful standard, and light was cast on his brilliance recently after his two outings against Chelsea in the Champions League.
With Madrid trailing at home to Chelsea, he got his side back into the game with a magical cross with the outside of his right foot for Rodrygo to score.
Until he signs a new deal, there will, of course, be uncertainty over his future.
But, Ancelotti believes he won't play for another club.
“He will finish his career here, in Madrid. That's the idea that everyone is following," Ancelotti said.
"There will be no problem with his renewal of it. He is a player that takes care of himself and throughout his career he has not had serious injuries."
Modric - Madrid's Maldini?
Ancelotti then compared Modric to Milan legend Paulo Maldini due to the pair's shared ability to play at such a high level right to the end of their respective careers.
“If I had to compare him with anyone, I would make the comparison with Maldini. They are legends of football," the Italian commented.
Maldini played with Milan until the age of 41 and is recognised as one of the greatest defenders of all time.
In his illustrious career, he won seven Serie A titles, five Champions League titles and one World Cup.
He has made a record amount of appearances for the Rossoneri and the third most appearances in UEFA competitions.
