Barcelona are confident about completing the signing of Robert Lewandowski this summer, as Xavi looks to bring in a marquee player in the next transfer window.

The club are looking to buy a consistent goalscorer, and although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has done well since joining in January, Barcelona want to sign one of the world’s best in Lewandowski.

Bayern Munich have constantly said they aren’t willing to let Lewandowski leave this year, and have been in talks over extending his deal at the club, but the Blaugrana don’t see it that way.

Barcelona offer Lewandowski better deal

Seeing as the Pole’s contract runs out in the summer of 2023, Spanish media report that Xavi’s club are confident of snapping up the forward as he isn’t happy with the terms offered to him by the German champions.

The offer on the table from Bayern is a one-year extension – taking him through to 2024 – while Barcelona are offering a two-year deal with an option to extend for a further season.

Additionally, Lewandowski’s agent believes that Bayern would accept any offer of around €40 million for the 33-year-old, despite saying the forward isn’t for sale at any price.

Seeing as he is in the final year of his contract, a fee like that would be far more valuable than potentially losing him on a free next summer.

According to reports, Lewandowski believes he needs a new challenge and Barcelona, a club with ambitions of challenging in Spain and Europe again, could provide just that.

The Pole has been at Bayern Munich since 2014, and has scored 343 goals in 374 appearances for them in that period, winning eight Bundesliga titles, three German Cups and one Champions League in that time.

In all but one of his eight seasons there, he has scored over 40 goals for the club, and even broke the single-season Bundesliga scoring record last season when he netted 41 times in the league.
