Kylian Mbappe reportedly received a €40 million signing bonus from Real Madrid in December 2021 as the Spanish giants attempted to convince him to join the club.

Mbappe, 23, has now signed a new three-year deal at Paris Saint-Germain, keeping him in the French capital until 2025.

The forward was set to become a free agent this summer until he decided to renew his PSG contract, with Real Madrid confident he would join them once the 2021/22 season ended.

However, that will not happen, with Mbappe extending his stay at the club he joined from Monaco in 2017 on an initial loan deal.

Mbappe was expected to sign for Real Madrid this summer, but decided against the move in favour of staying put. In fact, Real Madrid were so confident in signing the Frenchman they reportedly sent him a payment of €40m last December as an early signing-on bonus.

Was Mbappe sent a payment by Real Madrid?

La Liga have sent an official complaint to UEFA after labelling the deal PSG offered Mbappe as 'scandalous' and Spanish journalist Tomas Gonzalez-Martin has revealed another element of Mbappe's transfer saga.

He told Bernabeu Digital: "I was not surprised by what happened this week. If you asked me 15 days ago I would have said yes because he [Mbappe] had more or less agreed with Real Madrid.

"He had received an advance of 40 million of the signing on premium in December. Everything was signed in a pre-agreement since last year when he was going to make the transfer."

The 13-time Champions League winners will reportedly receive this fee back after Mbappe's decision, however.

Real Madrid had a €200m bid for Mbappe rejected by PSG last summer, but expected to sign the forward one year later without the need for a transfer fee. However, that plans has failed with Mbappe siding with the French club's offer rather than the rival bid from Los Blancos.
