Samuel Umtiti is set to leave Barcelona after enduring a few difficult years at the club, with constant injury problems affecting his playing time.

The player hasn’t had the best relationship with the club and fans in recent times as well, and all signs point towards and exit, albeit it may only be a temporary one.

Barcelona extended his contract earlier this season, but that was mainly done to ease the stress on their wage bill and will be hoping to get rid of that in the summer, as they know a permanent exit will be difficult.

Here are three clubs that he could move to when the transfer window opens.

Where could Umtiti go?

Besiktas

According to reports, Umtiti’s entourage have accepted that it’ll be difficult to find the defender a top club and may have to settle for one outside Europe’s top five leagues.

That may leave the door open for Besiktas, who have been interested in the player in the past, and a loan move may be possible.

Matters may be complicated by the fact that playing in Turkey isn’t of the biggest appeal to Umtiti, and it may be a secondary option should other moves fail to materialize.

Rennes

Another option for Umtiti would be a return home, and there may be a few clubs that would be interested in getting the Barcelona man.

Umtiti previously played in Ligue 1 with Lyon, the club that gave him his break in football, and he could make a return there, with three clubs reportedly interested.

Montpellier have maintained an interest, but it could be Rennes that gets his signature, especially if they secure Champions League football.

Newcastle

According to reports, Newcastle were interested in taking Umtiti in the winter transfer window, but the player rejected the move and asked for another chance at Barcelona, which left the club furious.

That may prompt Newcastle to come back for the player, and he could be a valuable squad option for the Magpies should he join.

The 28-year-old may not get as much playing time here, but it could still be a good career move for him.
