Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has suggested that Kylian Mbappe will live to regret his decision not to move to the Liga giants.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker had been widely tipped to complete a free transfer to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu this summer after holding out on signing a new deal with his current employers.

But just when he appeared bound for the Blancos, Mbappe decided to sign a fresh extension and stay at PSG, where he has called home since moving from Monaco as a teenager in 2017.

Perez has made no secret of his disappointment in failing to land his man, but suggested during a conversation with Madrid fans that Mbappe would ultimately lose out as a result of his decision.

A video clip of the chat shows one supporter demanding of Perez: "Don't ever bring Mbappe here now."

The long-time president replied: "Poor man, he must already be regretting it," in reference to the France international.

"We are also going to report the matter to UEFA before Friday," he said in May.

"It is impossible for PSG to comply with current Financial Fair Play rules given what they'll pay for Mbappe.

"It is already clear that they're going to pass the limits. So, let's see what happens, although, of course, it is impossible now to stop the renewal of Mbappe."

Perez also hit out at PSG and their star after learning he would not be Madrid-bound.

“[PSG] practically offered him not only to be the leader of the team, but also of the management. It was at that point that we saw it wasn't the same Mbappe that we wanted to sign. He changed his dreams as a result of pressure," the president fired to El Chiringuito.

“If a kid is called by the president of a country (Emmanuel Macron), of course it'll affect him. What makes no sense is that he did it at all – it influenced him a lot. But he could have succeeded at Real Madrid, just as Zidane did, and still be a source of pride for his country.

“Madridistas will be disappointed, but the Mbappe who wanted to come to Real Madrid was not this Mbappe.”
