Rodrygo set for new Real Madrid contract with €1bn release clause

Real Madrid starlet Rodrygo is set to be handed a fresh deal at the club following his impressive end to the 2021/22 season.
Rodrygo, 21, joined Los Blancos from Santos in 2019, and enjoyed his best ever goalscoring campaign last year.
The Brazilian has made a name for himself in the Champions League during his time in Europe, with 10 goals in the competition, compared to just seven in the Spanish top flight.

That theme continued last season, with Rodrygo notching five goals in European competition, and four in La Liga. Those five goals were of crucial importance to Real Madrid's run to the trophy, with Rodrygo grabbing the equaliser against Chelsea in the quarter-finals and a late brace to tie things up in the semi-finals against Manchester City.
However, he is yet to establish himself as a regular in the starting XI under Carlo Ancelotti, with Fede Valverde, traditionally a midfielder, often used on the right flank and Vinicius Jr on the opposite wing. Despite this, last season was the first in which he surpassed the 25-appearance mark in La Liga, notching up 33 games in the Spanish top division.
Real Madrid are set to recognise Rodrygo's importance by offering a new and improved contract that will include a €1 billion release clause.
Release clauses are compulsory in the Spanish top tier, with several players from the top teams possessing absurd figures in order to keep them tied to their existing club.
An extended deal for Rodrygo
Rodrygo will become no exception should he agree to the deal offered to him by Los Blancos. AS have reported that he will be handed a five-year deal, with an option for the club to extend this by a further 12 months.
His current deal isn't set to expire until 2025, so it's clear that Real Madrid are keen to tie him down to an even longer term deal. FootballEspana report that it's expected Rodrygo's fellow Brazilians Eder Militao and Vinicius Jr will also sign new deals at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid have already signed both Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni this summer as they look to defend their Champions League crown.
