Vinicius Jr’s new contract: Details emerge of Real Madrid agreement
Vinicius Junior is set to be rewarded for his sparkling form during the 2021/22 season with Real Madrid by being presented with a new contract.
The 21-year-old left-sided attacker, who joined Los Blancos from Flamengo for €45 million in 2018, enjoyed a breakout season in which he scored 22 goals and created 20 more in all competitions. His most important strike, of course, was the goal that won Real Madrid a 14th Champions League, the only strike in their 1-0 final victory over Liverpool.
His overall performance, though, was excellent and his reward will be an improved contract upon his current deal, which runs until 2024.
Vini Jr’s wage, contract length and release fee
Marca journalist Mario Cortegana has reported the key details of Vini Jr’s new contract, which will see him enjoy a healthy boost.
Presently, the Brazilian is still under the terms of the contract he signed when he was simply a promising teenager arriving from South America with little first-team experience and bagfuls of hope. To that end, he is earning a wage of €3.5 million per year. It is reported that he will enjoy a leap to €10m per year. There will be bonuses paid on top of that figure.
That will see him stop short of the club’s best earners – presently Eden Hazard on €26m per year – but will see him move up into the middle ranks of the club’s pay structure alongside the likes of Ferland Mendy and Karim Benzema.
Meanwhile, his contract extension is expected to see him sign on for the club for at least two additional years. Vini Jr’s deal with Real Madrid will, therefore, expire in 2026 but the contract may have the option for another 12 months.
In terms of his release clause, Real Madrid are going to step into line with Barcelona and give another major star a €1 billion figure. This is now commonplace and is effectively a mechanism to stop teams coming in and signing players too easily.
In total, Vini Jr’s new Real Madrid contract is set to be worth at least €40m to him.
