Barcelona are close to completing a move for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, after weeks of intense negotiations between the two clubs.

Lewandowski made it clear that he wished to leave the German giants in a press conference months ago, and Barcelona asked the player to be patient as they resolved their financial issues.

The Pole has admitted it was his dream to play in Spain – either with Barcelona or Real Madrid – and now a move is close to completion, as the two clubs agreed a fee on Friday.

Lewandowski is set to join Barcelona in the United States, as the Catalan side go across the Atlantic for their pre-season preparations.

Lewandowski's wage revealed

The 34-year-old was one of manager Xavi’s priority signings, with the boss eager to have a player who could guarantee at least 30 goals-a-season.

Barcelona had a difficult start last season, dropping out of the Champions League in the group stages, but had a better second half, as they ended up finishing second in La Liga.

Now, Xavi wants to get even better, and saw Lewandowski as an essential piece of business, bringing in a forward who guarantees goals and is joining on the back of the best seasons of his career.

With that, there is also a high cost: in addition to the €50 million transfer fee, Lewandowski is also set to earn €35 to €40 million-per-season, according to Sky Germany.

The Pole is set to join on a three-year deal, and there is set to be a huge outlay to allow him to join Barcelona, which is done through Barcelona activating economic levers to access more finances.

Barcelona have already completed the signing of Raphinha from Leeds United, while also bringing in Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen, following the expiry of their contracts at Milan and Chelsea.

Along with them, the Blaugrana also have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres and Memphis Depay to choose from as their attacking options, giving Xavi a wealth of choices.
