Barcelona were keen on signing the Polish forward, who made it clear it was his desire to leave at the end of last season, and he was keen on a move to La Liga.

The Catalan club had to find a way due to their difficult financial condition, and were only able to conclude a deal this past week.

There will be lots of eyes on Lewandowski’s first clash against Real Madrid, against whom he has a decent record, having previously met in the Champions League.

Lewandowski has strong record against Real Madrid

Lewandowski is expected to make his debut in a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid, when the two sides meet as part of the tours of the United States.

In the past, Lewandowski has played against Los Blancos on several occasions when he was at both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Despite a decent scoring record, he hasn’t had the best success rate when coming up against the Madrid side, but will be hoping to change that.

Lewandowski has come up against Real Madrid on eight occasions, the first of which was in 2012 and the most recent one being in 2018.

In that time, he has scored six goals, including his first meeting against him when he was at Borussia Dortmund, as he scored the opener in a 2-1 win.

That was in the group stages of the Champions League, and they would later meet in the semi-final, where Lewandowski scored all four goals in a 4-1 win – arguably his most famous European display.

They would meet again in the following season in the quarter-finals, but Lewandowski couldn’t find the net, as Real Madrid went through and ended up winning the competition.

The Pole would then come up against them in the quarter-finals again, this time with Bayern Munich in 2017, and he scored in the second leg, having missed the first match through injury.

That wouldn’t be enough as Real Madrid would progress 6-3 on aggregate, once again going on the win the competition as part of their three-peat.

His final meetings against them would once again come in the semi-final, this time in 2018 and it was another losing effort, as Lewandowski failed to score and Bayern would fall 4-3 on aggregate.

Barcelona will be hoping Lewandowski can continue his personal record, but will want a change in the team’s outcome in the upcoming season.

There will be at least two league meetings between the two sides, but both will actively be competing to win the Copa del Rey and Champions League, and could just meet on more than those two occasions.
