Jorge Mendes was in Barcelona last night at a dinner with club President Joan Laporta, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s future was one of the topics brought up in their meeting.

The super-agent has been working closely with the Blaugrana since the return of Laporta as President, helping them with their dire financial condition through purchases and sales of talents.

It was believed that the future of his biggest client was a topic of discussion, following the Portuguese star making it clear that he wishes to leave Manchester United.

Ronaldo is keen to play for a club in the Champions League and competing for trophies, something he thinks he no longer has at Manchester United.

Mendes meeting brings up other clients

Along with Ronaldo, Mendes discussed the future of some other clients of his, as he hopes to get some deals done with Barcelona in the coming weeks of the transfer window.

The Blaugrana activated two financial levers, helping them end the previous financial year with a positive balance and giving them some funds to spend in the transfer market.

They’ve been targeting several players, including Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski – their primary target – as well as Leeds United’s Raphinha and Sevilla’s Jules Kounde.

Mendes, though, was discussing the future of his own clients: Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, Rafael Leao from Milan and Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers, all of whom have been linked with moves this summer.

Silva has been a target for Barcelona this year, as Xavi is believed to be a fan of his, but Barcelona will only make a move for him should they sell Frenkie de Jong this summer, with the Dutchman linked to Manchester United.

However, the asking price for the midfielder is set at £86 million, something the Blaugrana consider to be too high and too unreasonable, so a move looks difficult.

The meeting between Mendes and Laporta was said to be monopolized by discussions around Ronaldo, who Laporta was interested in signing even last year, but couldn’t due to the club’s financial condition.

So far, Manchester United seem uninterested in selling, but that could change, and if he goes to Barcelona, it would be one of the most sensational transfers in history, considering Ronaldo’s real Madrid history.
