Memphis Depay has been linked with a move away from Barcelona, and was close to signing for Juventus, but talks haven’t progressed as planned.

There was an agreement in place that would see the Dutchman terminate his contract with Barcelona and move to Turin, but the player and Juventus haven’t yet reached an agreement over personal terms.

Barcelona wish to cut down their wage bill in order to help them register new signings, and Depay is one of the players they are willing to let go, despite only joining a year ago.

However, the Juventus move isn’t as straightforward as it first seemed, and a few Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the situation if they’re looking to sign a new forward.

Juventus eyeing Depay alternative

Clubs in England like Tottenham and Newcastle have been interested in Depay all summer, but haven’t yet made a move for the player as they approach the final days of the window.

Depay himself wishes to play at a Champions League club, so that may encourage Tottenham more in this race as they begin their campaign next month.

Juventus, meanwhile, have prepared in case they’re unable to sign Depay, and have lined up Marseille’s Polish forward Arkadiusz Milik as an alternative.

Milik, who has previous Serie A experience with Napoli, has not been in the best of form since the arrival of Igor Tudor as head coach at Marseille.

The club also made it clear earlier in the summer that despite qualifying for this season’s Champions League, they will sell players should the right offer for them arrive.

It’s believed that Juventus would pay a €2 million loan fee for Milik, with an option to purchase at the end of the loan period for a further €8 million.

It all hinges on Depay and what he does this summer – his future could determine any future transfer activity for a few other clubs in three different leagues.
