Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid: Truth behind PSG star’s contract plans as transfer rumours explode
The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga has erupted once again, with Real Madrid once again embroiled in the midst of a storm regarding the PSG attacker.
Given Mbappe’s profile, it was only a matter of time during the January transfer window before his name hit the headlines, and it did so on Sunday in dramatic style as several high-profile sources reported differing accounts of the 25-yearold’s plans.
Out of contract in the summer, Mbappe’s future is in his hands. He can already talk to foreign teams, with Real Madrid and Liverpool leading the way when it comes to a possible departure as a free agent. Yet PSG hold hope of retaining the World Cup winner by signing him to a new long-term deal.
What's happening with Mbappe?
FootMercato’s report that the France star has agreed terms to join Los Blancos is, therefore, credible. The source is one that is not bad when it comes to PSG.
However, this flies in the face of The Times, which reports through the well-connected Duncan Castles that Mbappe has been left “unimpressed” by the deadline that Real Madrid have given him to accept their offer.
It has been reported for several weeks that the Spaniards expect the forward to accept any offer presented to them by 15 January.
This tallies with comments that Mbappe made to the press following PSG’s Trophee des Champions success over Toulouse last week.
“I haven’t made my decision but we have an agreement with the president Nasser Al-Khelaifi so it means that all parties are protected,” he said.
Similarly, the wildly pro-Real Madrid source Marca claims that there has not even been an offer made by Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who have distanced themselves from a possible move in recent weeks.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have never made a noise over the situation, but FootballTransfers reports that Mohamed Salah is likely to agree a new contract with the Reds, suggesting that the Frenchman is not a priority right now.
Mbappe’s situation is, therefore, a little unclear, but the balance of probabilities suggests that there is not yet a contract agreement with Real Madrid and that this transfer saga will rumble on for a good while yet.
