Barcelona’s De Jong asking price leaked to Man Utd and Chelsea
Barcelona are eager to sell Frenkie de Jong next summer if the Netherlands midfielder continues to refuse to sign a new contract.
The Camp Nou side want to use the windfall from any sale of the player to plough back into their side, according to Mundo Deportivo, which has leaked the price that Barca expect suitors to pay for the former Ajax player.
There is no shortage of interest in the 26-year-old. Arsenal, Chelsea and, most notably, Manchester United have all been linked with the talented player.
Having been subject to transfer speculation for much of the last 18 months, De Jong's future at Barcelona is again uncertain. The midfielder still has a contract until mid-2026 in Spain, where Barca has made him a proposal to extend his contract until mid-2029.
De Jong has not accepted this deal, as it would require him to take a sizeable cut to his wages, which is something he has stoically refused to do in the past.
De Jong wants Barca stay
Reports from Spain indicated that he was considering a departure this summer, but FootballTransfers debunked those by exclusively revealing that the player wants to see his contract with the Blaugrana out.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are considering the playmaker’s departure next summer.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona expect to make around €100 million from De Jong.
The club has taken into account the transfers of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, who joined Chelsea for €115 and €121 million euros respectively in recent transfer periods.
According to data from FootballTransfers, De Jong has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €50m.
If De Jong leaves Spain for more than €100m, he would become Barcelona's most expensive outgoing transfer ever after Neymar.
The Brazilian earned a fee of €222m in 2017 when he left for Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea and Manchester United are on alert.
