Kylian Mbappe’s summer transfer to Real Madrid is not proving as easy as the Spanish club might have liked, with Fayza Lamari, the player’s mother, proving to be a major impediment to the completion of any deal.

The forward is, of course, out of contract in the summer and will be a free agent in July if he does not sign a new contract with PSG.

Little over a week ago, it appeared that Mbappe’s departure from the Parc des Princes to join Los Blancos was becoming a reality, but like much over the France superstar’s future over the last two years, nothing is straightforward.

Reports on Sunday indicated that negotiations between the 25-year-old and Madrid are proving so complicated that they have stalled.

Marca reports that the chief reason behind this is Lamari, whose hard-nosed negotiating style is threatening to derail the Spanish side’s hopes of landing the forward.

“Madrid have collided with Fayza Lamari, a tough nut to crack, an implacable woman, who does not hide and who also wants to impose her conditions even if Kylian is willing to give in. And it seems that for now they are far from what the white club offers,” Marca reports.

Lamari has previously bragged of her desire to get market value for her son.

“There’s no guilty, no shame,” she told ‘Envoye Special’ in January of the talks that led to Mbappe signing a new PSG deal in 2022. “If we could have taken €10 billion, we’d have done that because it’s the system that demands it.”

It is from quotes such as this that she has earned a reputation as being one of the toughest negotiators in football, with Bild describing her previously as “extremely greedy”.

This is problematic for Real Madrid. Los Blancos are unlikely to be in a position to afford to match the contract offer PSG make to Mbappe, and even if they were able to equal it, the potential disrupting and disharmony it could cause in the squad may make such a move counterproductive.

Mbappe is still playing cat and mouse over his future, with Lamari a chief protagonist.
