Iga Swiatek stands accused of having ‘betrayed’ Robert Lewandowski during Sunday’s Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona at the Bernabeu.

The 3-2 victory for Los Blancos has caused rifts across Spain because of the contentious nature of their success.

Barcelona were left outraged as a shot from Lamine Yamal seemed to cross the line, yet no goal was given in favour of the Catalans. Instead, they would succumb to defeat as Jude Bellingham struck in the final seconds of the game for the second LaLiga Clasico this season.

Among the disappointed Barca players was Robert Lewandowski, who started the game in the centre-forward role for the visiting side.

He might have expected to count on the support of tennis sensation Swiatek, the WTA World No.1, from the stands, yet she revealed that she was supporting Los Blancos.

Taking to X, she said: “Thank you very much for this experience. #HalaMadrid.”

Lewandowski a Swiatek fan

Mundo Deportivo has described her decision as a betrayal.

Lewandowski, after all, travelled to Paris to watch his compatriot compete in the French Open final in 2022 and embraced her after she sealed a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Coco Gauff.

"I didn't know, and I'm happy about that because I would have got so stressed," Swiatek said during her press conference following that triumph.

"I'm happy that he's here, honestly. I don't know if he's a huge tennis fan or not. But, yeah, I mean, wow!

"He's been a top athlete in our country for so many years and it's hard to believe that he actually came to watch me.

"I hope he liked it. I hope he's going to come back. Yeah, I don't know. I'm just overwhelmed."

This is not the first time that Swiatek has visited the Bernabeu, however. Prior to last years Madrid Open, the tournament she will play next week, she visited the stadium during its renovation phase.
