Kylian Mbappe is ready to make a change in a bid to save his stalling Real Madrid career.

Mbappe has come under fire since moving to the Bernabeu in the summer, despite scoring 10 goals already for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The World Cup winner, however, has suffered more than his share of controversy, however. He finds himself accused of rape after taking a trip to Sweden during the international break in October – allegation that he denies. Furthermore, he has missed penalties against Liverpool and Athletic Club in critical losses for Los Blancos.

Instead of dwelling on his problems, though, Mbappe is determined to make the 2-0 midweek loss to Athletic in Bilbao a turning point in his career at Real Madrid, who he joined in the summer on a free transfer from PSG.

AS reports that his team-mates have been impressed with his attitude since that moment, with the 25-year-old notably addressing his colleagues before they had even left the San Mames locker room.

“Mbappe spoke individually with some of the key players in the squad. He admitted his mistakes to them and stated his desire to react and become a real leader of the new project,” the Madrid source states.

Kylian Mbappe: A Real Madrid leader in the making?

This reiterates the message that Mbappe had previously given his followers on social media following the game.

Mbappe wrote on his Instagram stories: “Bad result. A big mistake in a match where every detail counts. I take full responsibility for it. A difficult moment but it’s the best time to change the situation and show who I am.”

The feeling among the Real Madrid squad is that Mbappe can become “the leader the project needs and they expect him to take that step”.

Indeed, his actions have “triggered a bounce among his colleagues”.

This is a very different attitude to the one that Mbappe has reportedly shown with France, with goalkeeper Mike Maignan reportedly furious about the lack of passion from the captain of the national team following a defeat in Italy in September.

Mbappe has failed to feature for his country since then, instead prioritising his fortunes at Real Madrid.
