Barcelona’s summer transfer spree is far from over, with the Camp Nou outfit targeting several more arrivals, including a right-back.

Xavi’s side kicked the season off with a disappointing 0-0 home draw against Rayo Vallecano, in which they dominated the game but were unable to find a breakthrough, despite the presence of new arrivals Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen.

Marcos Alonso of Chelsea and Bernardo Silva of Manchester City are earmarked as further arrivals, but Barca also want to add strength in the right-back area, where Sergino Dest does not have the faith of the coach.

According to Gerard Romero, there are five players that they are particularly targeting.

Barcelona want Man Utd pair

Perhaps the most surprising of the five names on Xavi’s shortlist is Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a player liable to be dumped by Manchester United because of his lack of efficiency at both ends of the field.

Given the modern style that the Spaniard is trying to implement, and the focus on the full-backs being able to produce offensively, it is surprising to see Wan-Bissaka linked to the Blaugrana. After all, he has only two goals and 10 assists to his credit in 125 appearances at Old Trafford.

His Man Utd team-mate Diogo Dalot is another name associated with Barcelona, and the Portuguese certainly has the type of attacking attributes that they would likely be looking for. With Dalot having been installed as Erik ten Hag’s first choice, though, he could prove harder to sign than Wan-Bissaka.

The other three options

Similarly, Bundesliga full-backs Thomas Meunier of Borussia Dortmund and Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen are both noted for their attacking qualities and are logical options to step into the team.

At 30 years old, Meunier is the most experienced name on this shortlist, with 21-year-old Frimpong the youngest.

The fifth and final name mentioned in connection with Barcelona is Villarreal’s Juan Foyth, though like Wan-Bissaka, he is a full-back who does not have a great offensive output.
