Gavi broke through the Barcelona first-team last season, but he’s not happy with one transfer target the club have for this summer.

Barcelona have been busy in this window, having signed the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Franck Kessie, Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen.

Gavi, meanwhile, sees his place secure in midfield and is expected to have greater responsibilities in the upcoming campaign in this youthful Barcelona middle line.

Barcelona are attempting to build a fairly young core with Gavi at the heart of it alongside Pedri and winger Ansu Fati, however, they face a problem.

Gavi threatens to leave Barcelona

Unlike the other two, Gavi’s contract runs out next year and he’s free to leave the club for no fee if a renewal isn’t agreed by then.

It was believed that a renewal would be agreed upon once the player turned 18, which he did on 5 August, and there is a belief that an extension is close.

However, Gavi’s camp have said that they will not agree to a renewal if Barcelona sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City in this transfer window.

The midfielder wishes to keep his place in the side and his camp believe that the signing of Silva will restrict that and relegate him to a secondary role in the team.

Barcelona have maintained an interest in Silva over the years, and have been serious about making a move this summer, but can only do so if Frenkie de Jong is sold.

The club are in a difficult financial position, and will have to let go of players to register new ones, and that is holding up any deal with Manchester City.

For Gavi, there has been interest from the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and others, who are looking to bring him over on a free deal next year.
