Barcelona’s new signing Robert Lewandowski has expressed his delight over his move and said that Catalan club was the only team he wanted.

Lewandowski joined Barcelona in July after several weeks of negotiations between the Blaugrana and Bayern Munich, as the two negotiated a big fee for the forward.

The former Bayern Munich star made it clear to the Bavarians that he was keen to leave the club at the end of last season, and had a host of offers from Europe’s top clubs.

Barcelona had to weave through their financial difficulty to get the deal done, and he was Xavi’s top priority for the forward position as he looks to improve his side.

Lewandowski only wanted Barcelona

It was reported that Xavi had conversations with the Pole and expressed his plans with him in the side, and that made Barcelona Lewandowski’s ideal destination.

Premier League sides such as Chelsea and Manchester United also had discussions with Lewandowski, but playing in La Liga was the player’s only ambition.

It’s believed that in conversations with the two sides, Lewandowski was adamant that Catalonia was the only place for him: “Thank you, but I only want to join FC Barcelona.”

Both Premier League sides were keen to sign a new forward this year: Chelsea lost Romelu Lukaku and had to dive in the market for a goalscorer, while United could still lose Cristiano Ronaldo, who wants to leave the club.

Lewandowski made his debut for Barcelona last week in their pre-season friendly in the United States against Real Madrid, and he played his second match against the New York Red Bulls later on.

He is yet to score for the club, but will be hoping to break his duck soon as the new campaign begins on 13 August, with Rayo Vallecano set to visit the Camp Nou.

Lewandowski is part of a busy summer of transfer activity for Barcelona, as they’ve signed the likes of Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen.
