Robert Lewandowski ended a seven-year stay at Bayern Munich this summer having completed a move to Barcelona, in one of the window’s most high-profile transfers.

The Polish forward – one of the Bavarian club’s greatest goalscorers – made it clear that he wanted to leave the club at the end of last season.

He was linked to several clubs, including Chelsea, but he only wanted to move to Barcelona and after weeks of negotiations, a fee was agreed between the two clubs for the transfer to happen.

There was a big fee involved for the transfer, with Barcelona even paying a chunk to Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, for the move to go through.

Barcelona handed out big commission

By the end of the move, Barcelona paid Bayern Munich a total of €45 million, which the German club saw as good value, given Lewandowski’s age, prior contributions and the fact that he only had a year left on his contract.

Zahavi was heavily involved in the transfer, initially publicly criticizing the Bayern management for their slow actions when offering to renew Lewandowski’s contract at the club.

Barcelona ended up paying the agent €5 million in commissions, according to The Athletic, in a bid to get the transfer done and bring the Pole to the Camp Nou.

It’s believed that Lewandowski also took on a slight pay cut as compared to his wages at Bayern Munich, but the player and agent feel their getting a fair deal as he is now contracted to the club until the age of 38.

Lewandowski was an important part of the transfer window for Barcelona President Joan Laporta, as he wanted a superstar signing that could elevate the team and club.

So far, Lewandowski has lived up to the billing, scoring four goals in his first three La Liga games for the club – braces against Real Sociedad and Real Valladolid.
