Bernardo Silva's father speaks out after failed Barcelona transfer
Barcelona were interested in a move for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva throughout the summer transfer window, but a move never materialized.
There were reports that the Blaugrana were eager to launch a bid throughout the summer but were held back by their financial issues.
There was also a belief that Barcelona had to sell Frenkie de Jong in order to be in a position to get Bernardo Silva, but a move for the Dutch midfielder didn’t happen, despite interest in him from English clubs.
Now, Silva’s father, Paulo, has spoken about Barcelona’s interest in him and the failed move over the summer months as his son continues his Manchester City career.
Barcelona still interested in Silva
He said: “There were a lot of talks, but no concrete offer was made at the times we thought were right. When it arrived, we realized that it was no longer the right time for all parties involved.
“Things have to happen rationally and it was not the ideal scenario for Bernardo. He is a mature player; he is 28 years old. Things should be done rationally, not emotionally,” Silva Sr. continued.
Barcelona have been busy in the transfer window having signed top players from across Europe such as Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde, amongst others.
Barcelona have not forgotten about Bernardo Silva. The club will try to sign him next summer.

Silva was believed to be one of their top targets, and also one of two from their initial list of targets that they didn’t end up bringing to the Camp Nou – the other was Cheslea’s Cesar Azpilicueta.
Azpilicueta signed a deal to stay with Chelsea, so a pursuit for him seems unlikely any time in the near future – Barcelona also brought in Hector Bellerin to make up for it.
However, a move for Silva may not entirely be dead in the water as Barcelona are reportedly interested in coming back for him next summer.
Silva is interested in a move to the Blaugrana, as it brings him closer to home and it was a club he dreamed of playing for as a youngster.
