Lewandowski's Barcelona exit clause revealed
Barcelona were desperate to land Robert Lewandowski this summer and it appears they have no desire to ever let him leave after inserting a staggering release clause into his contract.
Lewandowski signed a four-year contract with Barcelona in a €50 million deal from Bayern Munich after months of negotiations, which saw the Pole force his way out of the German side.
And Barcelona made sure their efforts could not come back to bite them in the future by inserting an eyewatering €500m release clause into the 34-year-old’s contract.
Spanish laws require clubs to have release clauses in every player’s deal and Barcelona have chosen to make Lewandowski’s a world-record fee that seemingly no club would look to activate.
It was also revealed by Marca that Lewandowski would make a salary of €10m, with the figure set to rise to €13m the following season, €16m and then back to €10m in his final year.
Lewa’s path to Barca
Lewandowski established himself as one of the best strikers in the world during his eight seasons at Bayern, scoring 238 goals in 253 Bundesliga games.
The striker won 19 trophies during his time in Munich, prompting him to demand an exit from the club as he sought a new challenge.
Bayern were reluctant to let their star forward leave and had told him to see out the final year of his contract, but Lewandowski refused to co-operate and insisted he would not return for pre-season.

Barcelona were unable to pay Bayern’s asking price until they activated an ‘economic lever’, selling off a portion of the club’s merchandising company to fund their transfers.
The Catalan outfit ended up spending in excess of €150m on players by continuing to activate levers, however they could not register their signings until the opening weekend of the season due to their financial issues.
