The Frenchman scored 44 goals throughout last season – which is the best record of his career – and contributed heavily to domestic and continental successes for Real Madrid.

In the Champions League, he scored goals in wins over Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City, on his way to being the top scorer of last season’s competition

In La Liga, he won the Pichichi Award as well – given to the league’s top scorer – in what was his first such honour following a season where he netted 27 times, and he is set to add a Ballon d'Or success on Monday evening.

Real Madrid set to reward Benzema

Now, he’s set to sign a new deal, which will see him stay at Real Madrid until the summer of 2024, extending his stay at Los Blancos to 15 years, by which point he will be 36 years of age.

Real Madrid have been known to reward some of their older players with contracts depending on performances, as evident by the deals handed to the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

He joined Real Madrid as an emerging forward in 2009 from Lyon and has been in excellent form since 2018, scoring over 140 goals in that period and spurring his side on to two league titles and the Champions League.

Over the course of his stint at the club, he has scored 328 goals for Real Madrid, the second-most behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

Extending his deal until 2024 will also give the club the chance to plan for life after him, amid rumours that Erling Haaland is one of their priorities for the future.

Haaland reportedly has a clause in his contract that can see him sold from Manchester City for a €200 million fee to a non-Premier League club in that year.
