Memphis Depay’s future at Barcelona is unclear with the Dutchman linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks having rarely featured for them this season.

Depay hasn’t featured for Barcelona in any of their last 13 competitive matches and he is close to an exit from the club in the near future.

The forward was linked with an exit in the past – especially in the summer transfer window – but a move wasn’t possible despite the club’s keenness to sell.

Now, given the conditions, a sale from the club is possible and Barcelona remain eager to sell Depay in the January transfer window.

Barcelona put Depay for sale

According to AS, Barcelona will sell Depay in the January transfer window and it’s due to their economic condition, which hasn’t been helped by their financial condition following their Champions League exit.

Last week, President Joan Laporta spoke about the club’s financial state and the need they may have to sell players in the January window.

He said: "We had to make some levers, which were economic operations that saved the club from ruin, and now the club is in economic recovery. But despite that, according to the rules of financial fair play of the Spanish league, we cannot sign."

Several Premier League clubs are intrigued by this – Manchester United were interested in the summer and may come back, especially given the situation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo.

Arsenal may also look for depth to their side and a back-up to Gabriel Jesus as they look for a strong second half of the season to maintain their title charge in 2023.

Others such as Tottenham have also been looking to get a deal done for the player and it remains to be seen where he will end up in the next window with an exit looking incredibly likely.
