De Jong has been playing well at Barcelona so far this season and Xavi wishes to keep him at the club, seeing him as the successor to Sergio Busquets in the midfield pivot.

He spoke about the situation in the summer transfer window, where he revealed a member of Barcelona’s hierarchy leaked details of his contract, which the club weren’t happy with.

Now, it’s emerged how much any club would have to pay if they want to get him, and the Premier League duo of Manchester United and Liverpool are interested.

Man Utd and Liverpool find out De Jong fee

Manchester United were interested in De Jong for 17 weeks in the summer but were unable to get a deal for him over the line in the end.

There were negotiations over his fee and the matter over his deferred wages which ended up causing the transfer to break down and De Jong ended up remaining at Barcelona for the current campaign.

Liverpool’s interest in him has been recent as they have struggled in midfield and are looking at options to improve in that area of the pitch.

Liverpool’s current options are either ageing – like Jordan Henderson and James Milner – or are suffering with injury issues – like Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – and they will have to spend to get a new midfielder in.

According to Fichajes, any club that wants to buy De Jong will have to pay a fee of around €80 million to secure his services from Barcelona in the January window.

De Jong is adamant he wants to stay at Barcelona, though, as it’s his dream club, and a move away from the Camp Nou may not be a certainty anytime soon.
