Real Madrid give Luka Modric stunning contract ultimatum
Luka Modric’s contract with Real Madrid is set to expire in June and his future at the club is still uncertain as he enters the final months of his deal.
There is reportedly a desire from both parties to extend the deal, but a final agreement has not been reached yet and that is creating doubts.
Modric is still performing really well for Real Madrid and feels he could play in the first team for a further few years – something the club feel is definitely doable.

However, Real Madrid have now set an ultimatum for Modric to extend his deal and that ultimatum is a non-negotiable as they look to conclude contract talks.
Modric must quit Croatia
The ultimatum is that Modric must stop playing for the national team if he wants an extension as they want him to commit his future and ensure his fitness for Real Madrid.
This is according to Sportske Novosti, who say that this is a difficult condition for Modric to accept, who has previously said that he will continue playing for the national team as long as they need him.

Modric has already agreed to play for Croatia in the Nations League semi-finals which will take place this summer so the retirement anytime soon looks unlikely.
The problem for Modric is that the qualifiers for the European Championships take place during the season, and Real Madrid ideally would not want him taking part in that.
There was a feeling from Real Madrid that Modric would retire after Croatia’s successful World Cup campaign in Qatar in December where they finished third.

However, his continuation with the national team has caused a problem, and ideally, Real Madrid are hoping he retires from national duty sooner rather than later.
Modric has played 162 times for his country and scored 25 goals with his greatest achievement being reaching the World Cup final in 2018 where they lost to France.
