The German youngster admitted that he has seen the stories about his future, but said that he is very much focused on Bayer Leverkusen.

“I just read about it, I want to focus on Leverkusen and be successful. I’m not looking into the future now”.

As well as Barca, Wirtz has been linked with Bayern Munich. The rumours have been around for an extended period and don’t seem like going away.

But Florian Plettenberg says that such a move would be complicated and it won’t be happening anytime soon.

The Sky Germany reporter tweeted: “The track leading to Florian Wirtz is currently ‘cold’ for Bayern. The player under contract until 2027 and is too expensive. Barcelona have made contact with the player’s father/agent Hans Wirtz to enquire about the situation. Summer move is ruled out. Earliest is 2024.”

It is thought that Bayern would not even consider bringing in Wirtz until at least the summer of 2025, and it’s possible that another side would come in ahead of them by then.

They cannot compete financially with any Premier League side that may wish to make a play for the 19-year-old.

Wirtz is under contract until 2027 and, at the moment, is too expensive. It is thought that Barcelona have made contact with the player’s father and agent Hans Wirtz but a summer move is not on the cards at this stage.
