An Argentine World Cup winner could get his dream move to Barcelona - and it's not Lionel Messi.

Spanish media has repeatedly hammered home the point that signing for the Blaugrana would be a 'dream move' for former Real Madrid man Angel di Maria. His long-standing desire could finally come to fruition this summer.

Recent reports out of Italy claimed that contract talks between Di Maria and current side Juventus have broken down, meaning that the Argentine, who starred at the 2022 World Cup, will be a free agent this summer.

Just like fellow free agent and compatriot Lionel Messi, Di Maria is being heavily linked with Barcelona, with a Relevo journalist now even claiming that both could soon be plying their trade at the famous Camp Nou, but can Barcelona even afford one of them, let alone both?

Financial problems

A lot has been made of Barcelona's dire economic situation with conflicting reports variously claiming that their financial viability plan has or hasn't been approved by LaLiga.

The fact of the matter is that, though as recently announced, Barcelona have already managed to considerably cut down their spending, there is still a long way to go before they are back on an even financial keel and they will need to sell players in the summer.

That being the case, it is doubtful whether Barcelona will be able to pay not one but two high-profile names who will likely command massive salaries.

If they do end up getting Messi, they expect him to bring in a huge amount of revenue - some €230 million per year - which could flip the situation on its head and help them sort out their financial mess.

At the moment, however, the idea that they may be able to bring in both Angel di Maria and Lionel Messi seems like wishful thinking.
