Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has received plenty of support after suffering racist abuse once again in LaLiga.

The attacker is enjoying the best personal season of his career, but some of his performances have sadly been overshadowed by the disgusting actions of fans from around the Spanish top flight. This happened yet again on Sunday when Real Madrid faced Valencia and the Brazilian was subjected to a torrent of racism from the stands.

Fingers were pointed in the aftermath of this latest incident, with the player rightfully criticising the league for not doing more to curb this persistent problem. LaLiga bigwig Javier Tebas subsequently hit back at Vinicius Jr, blaming the player for inviting the abuse by repeatedly antagonising the crowd.

"Once again," the 22-year-old replied, "instead of criticising racists, the president of LaLiga appears on social media to attack me."

"Omitting yourself only makes you equal to racists. I'm not your friend to talk about racism. I want actions and punishments. A hashtag doesn't move me," he wrote on his Twitter account.

The mayor of Rio chimes in

Vinicius Jr received support from fellow players over this new row, but he has also been backed by the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, who did not hold back when making his feelings on Javier Tebas clear.

Eduardo Paes took to Twitter to air his frustration, writing: "F*** you, son of a...@Tebasjavier. You want to blame the victim, imbecile?" Despite the harsh tone, this impassioned defence of a national hero was greeted with approval in Brazil. One university professor jokingly replied, "Lol mayor, summon...the militias and send them to Spain."

Earlier today, Vini Jr quote-tweeted a video from 1997 showing LaLiga fans racially abusing Roberto Carlos. "1997," he wrote. "Racism in Spanish stadiums existed even before I was born. What has changed until today?"
