What happened to Reinier? The Real Madrid ex-wonderkid is currently training by himself and his immediate future is looking bleak, according to Spanish media.

The young Brazilian - who is still just 21 - arrived at the Bernabeu in 2020 with the world at his feet. The Flamengo youngster was signed for a whopping €30 million and arrived with sky-high expectations.

Brazil has been a happy hunting ground for Real Madrid in recent seasons, with youngsters Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo trading Serie A for LaLiga with great success. Reinier's, however, is not such a feel-good story and he never managed to live up to expectations.

Indeed, the attacking midfielder still does not have a competitive fixture for Los Blancos under his belt, also suiting up for Castilla just three times. In recent seasons, he has spent two years on loan at Borussia Dortmund and one season at Girona but with little success.

In fact, in that time, he has only managed to record three goals and two assists across 57 outings, mostly off the bench. So, what is next for him?

A shortage of suitors

According to AS (via Footmercato), Reinier has been banished from Real Madrid's first team and is currently keeping in shape individually. He is not even permitted to train with Castilla because coach Raul feels that there is no need to have him around as long as his future is not settled.

Reinier is still under contract until 2026, but is anyone going to pay to get him out of his deal? At the moment, it is looking incredibly unlikely. Incredibly, Girona were open to taking him on loan for another year, but they have since filled all of their non-EU spots and signed other options, meaning that this move is impossible now.

At this moment in time, with just a few days left in the window, there are no offers for the 21-year-old who, as things stand, looks set to be left to rot in Madrid, either in the stands or with the B team.
