Barcelona are keeping a keen eye on the contract situation of in-form winger Leroy Sane, according to Spanish media.

The former Manchester City star is finally coming good at Bayern Munich, it seems. Often criticised for his lack of effectiveness since joining the Bavarians, the German has, thus far, only once managed to reach double figures in the goals or assists departments - recording 10 assists in his first season with the perennial Bundesliga champions.

Last term, Sane racked up eight goals and seven assists in the domestic league which is by no means a bad return, but given that we are talking about Bayern and the fact that they dominate most sides in Germany, it was still slightly underwhelming. This season, however, Sane has looked like a man reborn.

While record summer signing Harry Kane has undoubtedly impressed, Sane has arguably been the star of the team so far. The 27-year-old has looked unstoppable, netting five times in six league games as well as once in the Champions League.

Barcelona keen

His form is piquing the interest of Barcelona, according to Sport. What makes him an attractive option is the fact that he is out of contract in 2025 and, as the report asserts, there have been no efforts on Bayern's part to renew his deal at this point.

Barcelona have been forced to make free transfer moves recently because of their dire financial situation and Sane would certainly have to fall into that category because the Blaugrana could not afford to spend whatever Bayern would demand for him.

However, there is still a long way to go until 2025 and a lot can change between now and then. Moreover, Sane is 27 now and he is not getting any younger.

Nevertheless, head coach Xavi is said to be keen and the Blaugrana maintain an excellent relationship with Sane's agency, which also represents Marcos Alonso and ex-player Miralem Pjanic.
