Real Madrid have issued PSG attacker Kylian Mbappe what has been described as a “brutal ultimatum” over his future.

Mbappe has long been linked with a transfer to the Bernabeu side and the time appears ripe for a deal in the summer, with the France international out of contract at PSG and, therefore, potentially available as a free agent.

Los Blancos were in this position in 2022 only for the 24-year-old to elect to sign a new deal with the Ligue 1 champions.

Real Madrid are unwilling to be messed around by Mbappe again, and even if they are unable to officially open talks with him until 1 January, president Florentino Perez is unwilling to repeat the mistakes of the past.

AS reports that Mbappe will be given a two-week ultimatum by Real Madrid that will start on 1 January. If he has not agreed to sign for the club by the end of this period, the Spanish giants are ready to give up on him entirely and instead concentrate their efforts on signing Manchester City forward Erling Haaland.

Advantage PSG?

PSG, meanwhile, believe that they hold two trump cards to sign Mbappe.

The first of these is that they are willing to let him play in the Paris Olympics in 2024, which is a competition that the player has made clear he wanted to participate in.

It is unclear whether Real Madrid will be as accepting of this condition, particularly as it comes off the back of Euro 2024.

Meanwhile, PSG can also offer him the chance to become the all-time leading scorer in Ligue 1.

What is likely to be decisive, however, is whether Mbappe feels that he can win the Champions League or the Ballon d’Or at PSG – prizes that Real Madrid have proven in the past that they can help players win.
