Romano provides transfer update Barcelona fans will hate
Fabrizio Romano has played down rumours linking Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies with a move to Barcelona this summer.
Davies, 23, has less than 18 months remaining on his contract in Bavaria and he is yet to reach an agreement over a new deal.
As a result, he could leave Bayern this summer, with Real Madrid currently deemed his most likely destination.
The Canadian international has also been tentatively linked with a transfer to Barcelona in recent days, following reports that Alejandro Balde could depart at the end of this season.
However, transfer expert Romano has poured cold water on such claims, with Davies currently more likely to join Barca’s El Clasico rivals Real Madrid.
What has Fabrizio Romano said?
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano provided an update on Davies’ potential transfer activity this summer.
“As I told you days ago, the salary is the crucial part for Alphonso Davies,” he began. “Let’s see if it will be Bayern with a contract extension or any other club.
“There have been many reports of a meeting between Davies’ agent and Barcelona, but I am not aware of Barcelona working on a deal for Davies. His salary request is a big salary so with Financial Fair Play, it could be really complicated for Barcelona.”
Romano continued: “At the moment, it is not something concrete from Barcelona. Let’s see what is going to happen with Real Madrid because Real Madrid are still there for Davies, while it is quiet with Barcelona.
“Also, keep an eye on Bayern because until the end of the season, they will still try and extend his contract. Otherwise, in the summer, he could be on the market,” Romano concluded.
Davies has made 27 appearances for Bayern so far this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
