Real Madrid reach verbal agreement to sign Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies
Real Madrid have reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies in 2024 or 2025.
The Canadian international has less than 18 months left on his contract at the Allianz Arena and Real Madrid will either sign him for a cut-price fee this summer or on a free transfer next year, according to The Athletic.
Barcelona and several Premier League teams have been linked with a move for Davies over the past few months, but joining Los Blancos remains his priority and he has avoided renewing his Bayern contract at the request of Real Madrid.
As per The Athletic, there have been several meetings in recent weeks, including one in mid-February, which has accelerated Davies’ move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Bayern are still hoping he will extend his stay in the Bundesliga, however if that becomes an impossibility, they will attempt to maximise any potential transfer fee for Davies this summer in order to avoid losing him on a free in 2025.
As a result, Davies is increasingly likely to join Real Madrid at the end of the current season after verbally agreeing to the move.
Alphonso Davies and Kylian Mbappe to sign for Real Madrid this summer?
Although Davies is seen as a priority target for Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is their number one focus for the upcoming transfer window, and the Frenchman is on the verge of a sensational free transfer move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
PSG boss Luis Enrique has admitted his side “have to get used to playing without Mbappe,” while the France international reportedly decided to join Madrid back in December.
The Athletic have reported, however, that any deal for Mbappe will not impact Los Blancos’ ability to sign Davies, meaning it’s extremely likely that both players will join the club when the summer transfer window opens.
