The 2023-24 LaLiga season saw Real Madrid reclaim the title after Barcelona’s triumph last campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side romped to the title with a winning margin of 10 points, while Barcelona narrowly edged out Girona to finish second.

Atletico Madrid filled the final Champions League spot, while Cadiz, Almeria and Granada were relegated to the second tier.

Below, FootballTransfers runs through our LaLiga Team of the Season.

GK: Unai Simon (Athletic Club)

Athletic Club sealed Europa League football thanks to their fifth-place finish during the 2023-24 LaLiga season, something that wouldn’t have been possible without Unai Simon.

The Spain number one kept 16 clean sheets in the campaign - the most of any goalkeeper in the Spanish top flight - while he also overperformed his xG against by 9.0. Only Giorgi Mamardashvili (9.9) could better this tally.

Simon is a worthy inclusion.

RB: Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid)

Dani Carvajal’s time at Real Madrid looks as though it was over a few years ago, but the Spaniard has revived his career and was stellar during the 2023-24 season.

He scored four goals and provided three assists, while Carvajal also played a key role as Los Blancos maintained the best defensive record in the division with only 26 goals conceded.

CB: Daley Blind (Girona)

Daley Blind joined Girona on a free transfer from Bayern Munich last summer and his impact was monumental.

Only four players in LaLiga had more touches than the Dutch international and while Eric Garcia received more plaudits, Blind was an assured presence at the back - quietly shining as he’s done for the majority of his career.

CB: Antonio Rudiger (Real Madrid)

There were some doubts regarding Antonio Rudiger’s ability to play in a back four when he arrived at Real Madrid - having starred in a back three at Chelsea - but the Germany international has well and truly proved any critics wrong.

ACL injuries to Eder Militao and David Alaba threatened to derail Real Madrid’s season, but Rudiger stepped up immensely in their absence and is a key reason why Los Blancos conceded just 26 goals in 38 league matches - by far the best tally of any team in LaLiga.

LB: Miguel Gutierrez (Girona)

Girona were the surprise package of the 2023-24 LaLiga season and left-back Miguel Gutierrez is the first of several inclusions in this team.

The Spaniard registered two goals and seven assists as Michel’s side secured Champions League qualification via a third-place finish.

No defender in LaLiga notched more than Gutierrez’s nine goal contributions and he has been linked with a summer move away following his immense performances in 2023-24.

RM: Savio (Girona)

Gutierrez’s Girona team-mate Savio is the next inclusion in FootballTransfers’ LaLiga Team of the Season after a remarkable loan spell from Troyes.

Manchester City have already agreed a deal to sign the Brazilian this summer and he will look to star in the Premier League after notching nine goals and 10 assists in LaLiga this campaign.

CM: Alex Baena (Villarreal)

Alex Baena edged out Toni Kroos, Isco and Aleix Garcia for a place in this team after registering 14 assists in LaLiga - the most of any player in the division.

The Villarreal man assisted just two goals last season, but he found his creative boots this time around and played a crucial role as The Yellow Submarine finished eighth.

CM: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)

Jude Bellingham joined Real Madrid for an initial €103 million in 2023, but there’s no doubt that fee now looks like a bargain.

The England international adapted to a more advanced role seamlessly and ended the campaign with 19 goals and six assists in LaLiga to his name. Real Madrid may have won the title without Bellingham, but it would’ve been far more tricky.

LM: Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid)

Six players tallied more than Vinicius Junior’s 15 LaLiga goals, including Bellingham, but there’s no doubt that the Brazilian is a worthy inclusion in this team.

Despite only racking up 1,875 league minutes, he was a constant threat whenever on the pitch and Vinicius remains one of the world’s very best players. His contributions in the Champions League were also immense.

ST: Alexander Sorloth (Villarreal)

Alexander Sorloth impressed on loan at Real Sociedad last season and his form in 2022-23 convinced Villarreal to splash €10m to sign him last summer.

They weren’t left disappointed, with the Norwegian racking up 23 league goals scored, 17 of which came in 2024.

ST: Artem Dovbyk (Girona)

The 2023-24 LaLiga top scorer was plying his trade for SK Dnipro-1 last season and was a complete unknown when he joined Girona for €7.8m.

Artem Dovbyk is known all across Europe now, however, after racking up 24 league goals for the high-flying Girona. Chelsea are among the clubs to have been linked with a move for the Ukrainian, who is in demand after his sensational debut season in Spain.
