New Bayern boss Vincent Kompany to ruin Real Madrid's transfer plans
Vincent Kompany's appointment as Bayern Munich boss has led to a twist in the Alphonso Davies transfer saga.
Real Madrid have been courting the Canadian since late 2023 in the full knowledge that his contract talks with Bayern were proving difficult. The Bavarians endured a dire season and Davies himself was rarely at his best.
This meant that the Bundesliga giants were always reluctant to accede to the 23-year-old's wage demands. Bayern made it quite clear that if they wouldn't be able to agree fresh terms with the left-back, he would be sold this summer so as to not lose him for nothing next year.

The relationship between the two parties deteriorated after Bayern issued Davies an ultimatum for making his decision, but said deadline has long since expired. Despite this, a contract extension is now once again a concrete possibility.
Davies twist
At least that is according to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, who reports that there has been a twist in the transfer saga, and it is all because of new coach Vincent Kompany.
The Belgian was announced as the new Bayern boss on Wednesday and new rounds of talks with Davies' camp subsequently followed, reports Plettenberg. Kompany, it is claimed, is desperate to keep the Canadian.

Real Madrid are yet to make a formal, concrete move for Davies, which may embolden Bayern to push for an extension. It had previously been claimed that Los Blancos had urged the left-back to reject any and all proposals from the Bavarians, knowing that he was keen on heading to Spain.
New life has been breathed into this months-long transfer saga and it remains one to watch as the summer progresses. Real unwilling to pay more than €50 million for the Canadian, with recent reports suggesting that they may not even be prepared to pay in excess of €40m.
